Zirconia (Metal-free) Crowns

However, one potential disadvantage of zirconia crowns is their opaque appearance, which may not look as natural as other options. If you’re considering alternatives to zirconia crowns, there are several materials available. These include ceramic, porcelain, metal, composite resin, and combinations of materials like porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM). Zirconia crowns are known for their durability and strength, which make them a long-lasting choice for dental restorations. In fact, they have a 99 percent five-year survival rate, which is higher than that of porcelain crowns that typically need to be replaced after a few years.

All Ceramic Crowns

All-ceramic crowns are made entirely of ceramic material, which means they reflect light in the same way that natural teeth do. Unlike crowns that contain metal, all-ceramic crowns are entirely lifelike in appearance. Thanks to an aluminum oxide ceramic core that’s covered in pure porcelain, all-ceramic crowns are resistant to breakage. However, their metallic color is the primary drawback, so metal crowns are best suited for molars that aren’t visible when smiling. Porcelain fused to metal crowns offer a combination of strength and aesthetics. They’re stronger than all-ceramic crowns and more visually appealing than metal ones. However, the metal shell of these crowns makes them look opaque and less natural than all-ceramic crowns. Over time, a thin metal band may become visible along the gum line, which can detract from their appearance.

Dentures are custom-made dental appliances that are designed to replace missing teeth and the surrounding soft tissues. They are removable and available in two types: complete dentures and partial dentures. Temporomandibular Disorder Management (TMD)

TMDs are disorders of the jaw muscles, temporomandibular joints, and nerves that cause chronic facial pain. Temporomandibular disorder may be caused by any problem that prevents the complex system of muscles, bones, and joints from working together in harmony.

First Aid for Common Dental Emergencies

It’s important to see your dentist or an emergency room as soon as possible if you have a dental emergency. Knocked-out Tooth. Keep a permanent or adult tooth wet at all times if it has been knocked out. Try to put the tooth back in the socket without touching the root if you can. If that isn’t possible, put it in milk between your cheek and gums. Then, as soon as possible, visit your dentist. If you have a cracked tooth, rinse it out with warm water right away to clean it. Apply cold compresses to the face to reduce swelling. Clean your tongue or lip gently with water and apply a cold compress if you bite your tongue or lip. Rinse your lips with warm water if you have toothaches. Using dental floss, gently remove any food stuck between the teeth. Aspirin should not be applied to the aching tooth or gum tissues. PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE. Following a simple preventative dental care regimen will greatly improve your dental health. It’s never a bad idea to review the basics, so here are a few simple guidelines: When participating in sports or recreational activities, wear a mouthguard. Chewing ice, popcorn kernels, and hard candy can all cause a tooth to crack. Do not use your teeth to cut things. Use scissors instead. Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Every six months, go to the dentist for a check-up and cleaning. After each meal, remove any trapped food (swill with water or use a floss) Don’t snack all day on refined carbohydrates (sugars) Floss everytime you brush
